UNESCO World Heritage Sites list is one of the criteria which many tourists buy their Iran tour package based on that. Iran joined UNESCO World Heritage Convention on February 26, 1975. There are 22 UNESCO world heritage sites in Iran, 21 of which are cultural heritage and "Loot desert" is the only natural heritage in Iran, registered on this list. The first sites inscribed on UNESCO list were "Choqa Zanbil", "Takht-e Jamshid" and "Naghsh-e Jahan Square" in 1979. Yazd city was the twenty second site and the first historical city of Iran inscribed on the list. The 22 sites inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage Sites list are: Choqa Zanbil (Susa), Naghshe Jahan Square (Isfahan), Takht-e Jamshid (Marvdasht), Takht-e Soleyman (West Azerbaijan), Pasargadae, Bam (Kerman), Dome of Soltaniyeh (Zanjan), Bisotun (Kermanshah), St. Thaddeus Monastery (Azerbaijan), Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System (Susa), Tabriz Bazaar (Tabriz), Sheikh Safi Al-Din ensemble (Ardabil), Persian garden (9 gardens), Gonbad-e Qabus tower (Gonbad-e Kavus), Jame mosque of Isfahan, Golestan palace (Tehran), Shahr-e Sukhte (Sistan), Meymand (Kerman), Susa (Khuzestan), Persian qanats (11 qanats), Loot desert, Yazd city.
